Septic System Tips

What should go into my septic tank?

Basically, only THREE things should enter your septic tank.  Human waste and toilet paper. Of course, in our modern world there will be the accompanying soap residue from personal hygiene and laundry.  Adhering to this principle however will keep your septic system healthy.

How often should I get my tank pumped?

We get asked this A LOT!.  There is no hard and fast rule only guidelines.  It depends on the amount of use, the number of occupants in the home, and the good practices outlined above.  Generally, we recommend every other year for a typical residence with 3 or more occupants.  Every three years for a residence with two or less occupants or a seasonal property..  However, WHEN IN DOUBT, PUMP IT OUT.

What are signs my septic tank/system needs attention?

Slow flushing toilets

Backed up toilets or drains

Strong sewage smell in the home

Pooling water on the surface of your septic bed area

Are ALL indications your septic system needs immediate servicing and possibly replacement.  Call a professional right away.
